All about Rose and why we should get to know one another!
Hi my name is Rose. This is me with a mask for your reference so you can recognize me in class.
Yes this is a photo of me with a goat since even though I eat meat, I think they are kind of cool.
Here is me without a mask, in case you see me outside of class on the lawn or something like that.
Also I am on the right. The person on the left is my friend Cora who works for ITS (come to her for technology help!).
I am a sophomore at Macalester, but I wasn't on campus much last year so I am practically new at Mac! I look forward to meeting new people, especially in this class and having the opportunity to learn new things!
I like to cook many different foods, especially baking desserts for my family such as cake or cookies. I also like trying new recipes from this cookbook I like called Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat.
I still consider myself a beginner cook (since I have limited experience) but I am excited to cook things like apple tarts and possibly bread in this class.
A food blog I really like is "The Teal Tadjine". Here is the link (The Teal Tadjine | North African-Inspired Family Traditions + Halal Recipes). I studied abroad in Morocco in high school but I never was able to learn much about cooking there beyond a few dishes. I really like this blog because the author is Algerian and is super passionate about making Maghrebi food accessible to everyone. Also the recipes on her website are so delicious. I think the intended audience is mostly Westerners that want to learn how to cook North African food. I definitely enjoyed trying the smoothie recipes.
Also I really like the Netflix series "Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat" from Samin Nosrat on Netflix. I really like how simple and easy to follow it is. I also like that I get hungry just watching it. The intended audience in my opinion is non-traditional cooks or people that try to cook but may struggle to get the desired outcome. This focuses on food from across the world, but especially foundational recipes to get people in the kitchen and cooking. I can imagine trying some of the recipes because I have tried her kabob recipe which was a lot of time but worth it for the delicious result.
